CAMS2018 “Advancing Materials and Manufacturing!”
Welcome from the Co-Chairs:
CAMS2018 continues a series of meetings that evolved from cooperation between two eminent materials professional societies in Australia: Materials Australia (MA) and the Australian Ceramic Society (ACS). The forging of joint objectives has created a series of meetings that started in 2004. These have been:
- A combined MA/ACS conference (MAC-1): Melbourne 29th November – 1st December 2004. co-Chairs Jian-Feng Nie and Nigel Stone.
- Materials & AustCeram 2007 (MAC-2): Sydney 4th – 6th July 2007. co-Chairs Simon Ringer and Dan Perera.
- Materials & AustCeram 2009 (MAC-3): Surfers Paradise 1st – 3rd July 2009. co-Chairs Jian-Feng Nie and Chris Berndt.
- CAMS 2014: Sydney 26th – 28th November 2014. co-Chairs Julie Cairney and Chris Sorrell
- CAMS 2016: Melbourne 6th – 8th December 2016. co-Chairs Chris Berndt and Peter Hodgson
CAMS2018 builds on the legacy of the above meetings and the co-Chairs recognise, and are grateful for, the contributions and ground-breaking work of the Past Chairs of these meetings. Thank you!
Prof Huijun Li
University of Wollongong
Prof Huijun Li obtained a PhD degree in 1996 from the University of Wollongong; He has 22 years research experience in materials science and engineering. He has published more than 300 papers in the field of welding metallurgy, new alloy development, surface engineering, nuclear materials and microstructure characterization.
In 1995, he joined CRC Materials Welding and Joining as a postdoctoral research fellow at University of Wollongong. In 2000, he took a research scientist position at Materials Division, ANSTO (Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation), he worked on a wide range of research projects in conjunction with the CRC Welded Structures, CRC CAST3, CRC Rail, British nuclear research organisations and American national laboratories. Prof. Li started working at University of Wollongong from July 2008; he is a chief researcher with Defence Materials Technology Centre (DMTC), Energy Pipeline CRC (EPCRC), Australian Research Council supported Training Centre for “Transforming Australia's Naval Manufacturing Industry”, “The Australian Steel Manufacturing Research Hub”, Rail Manufacturing CRC and several other industry funded projects.
Prof Li was in the research team awarded Australian Museum Eureka Prize for Outstanding Science in Safeguarding Australia, 2013, he was also awarded Australia Endeavour Fellowship 2014, Defence Materials Technology Centre - Capability Improvement Awards 2014, and Defence Materials Technology Centre – The Best Project Leader Awards 2016.
Dr Dan Gregg
Manager Wasteform Engineering
Dan Gregg is a Nuclear Wasteforms Scientist with ANSTO Synroc. He specializes in the development of materials and processes to support the safe and efficient disposition of nuclear wastes with a focus on problematic nuclear waste streams.
Dan leads the Synroc Wasteform Engineering Team on projects such as developing solutions for Mo-99 production wastes and long lived actinide containing wastes.
He has significant experience in materials science, chemistry and wasteform development and formulation. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland and joined ANSTO in 2010 as a Wasteforms Scientist in the Institute of Materials Engineering.
Dan is a member of the International Scientific Advisory Committee for the Materials Research Society Symposium on the Scientific Basis for Nuclear Waste Management and is a member of the Australian Ceramic Society.
